Verity Systems SV91M NATO Degausser – The Benefits
- Bulk erasure of a variety of magnetic media e.g. metal drives, tapes, etc.
- NATO approved
- Completely erases data from cassettes in twelve seconds and 3 minutes to degauss a hard drive
- Easy to use
- A thorough and cost-effective degaussing method
Easy Operation
The SV91M is simple to use.
For erasing Hard Drives the operator turns the security key to the “On” position and places the media on the top surface of the degausser. Pressing the red “Power” button turns on the magnetic field and the media is held in place for 3-5 seconds. Pressing the “Power” button turns off the magnetic field. The operator should then rotate the media 90° on the top of the degausser and repeat the process by applying the magnetic field for another 3-5 seconds. The media should then be flipped over and the process repeated making 4 degauss cycles in total. On completion of the fourth cycle, the media will be completely erased.

Compliance
NATO Approval
The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has approved the SV91 for security applications. The NATO stock numbers are as follows:

5836-99-500-5299 (60Hz)
Regulatory Compliance
Strict industry standards & government regulations are in place that force organizations to mitigate the risk of unauthorized exposure of confidential corporate & government data. These regulations include;
HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act)
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
FACTA (The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003)
GLB (Gramm-Leach Bliley)
Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOx)
Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS)
NSA (National Security Agency)
A two-step process has also been set out by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Central Security Service (CSS) for the disposal of magnetic storage devices, including hard drives. They recommend that hard drives are sanitized (erased) with a degausser prior to the physical destruction of the hard drive itself.
It is this standard that all government agencies must adhere to and is now recognized by most organizations as the most effective and fool-proof way of disposing of hard drives effectively and securely.
Security of data is also a legal requirement under the UK’s Data Protection Act 1998, ensuring the complete removal of all data from redundant equipment is essential to maintain the security and integrity of data. In addition, many standards insist that the process of data destruction is fully traceable. Using a degausser to sanitize media provides a fully auditable procedure.GDPR
Safe & Secure
With safety in mind and to meet the latest ICNIRP Magnetic Exposure Guidelines, the SV91M’s field is concentrated near the top operational surface where the media is degaussed.
